Pott’s fracture A Pott’s fracture is a type of ankle fracture that is characterized by a break in one or more bony prominences on the sides of the ankle known as the malleoli. Also known as Broken Ankle, Ankle Fracture and malleolar fracture. Pott's fracture, also known as Pott's syndrome I and Dupuytren fracture, is an archaic term loosely applied to a variety of bimalleolar ankle fractures.
The injury is caused by a combined abduction external rotation from an eversion force. This action strains the sturdy medial (deltoid) ligament of the ankle, often tearing off the medial malleolus due to its strong attachment.
Reprinted by the John Charnley Trust, the original text having been out of print for many years, this beautifully presented book deals very simply and scientifically with most of the difficult fractures an orthopaedic surgeon is likely to meet in his/her practice.
Despite the fact that the original text was published inthe basic principles espoused in the book still apply today, and it 5/5(1). Potts fracture. Not to be confused with potts disease Most obvious injury is # of 1 or both. malleoli along with rupture of one or more ligaments.
