The Kootenay (Kootenai in the U.S. and historically called the Flatbow) is a major river in the Northwest Plateau, within the borders of southeastern British Columbia, Canada, and northern Montana and Idaho in the United States. It is one of the uppermost major tributaries of the Columbia River, the largest North American river that empties into the Pacific : Libby, MT, Bonners Ferry, ID, Creston.

These veins, almost all in Nelson plutonic rocks, occur in an area of approximately square miles along the eastern margin of Slocan Lake.

Mineralogical analysis revealed a definite concentric zoning in the. In the East Kootenay the ore bodies are large and the silver content low, and the same may be said of the ore bodies in the Sheep Creek division of West Kootenay and the Blue Bell mine on the east shore of Kootenay lake.

The ores of the Slocan district are much higher in silver, probably averaging 75 oz. per ton of ore, whilst the ores of the.
